These are some of the most frequently caught fish from the northern section of the Gulf of Mexico and its coastal area's.

Below the images you can find a complete list of fish you may find along the gulfcoast states both freshwater and saltwater.
Southern
(Paralichthys lethostigma) Southern Flounder, Flatfish, halibut, plie, southern fluke
up to 12lbs., 2 - 3 lbs. common
Flounder are an important commercial and sportfish. They have a flat body with both eyes facing up. They are light to dark olive brown, marked with diffused dark blotches and spots on its back, underside of white. An aggressive bottom feeder, they bury themselves using their fins to hide in the sand or mud bottom. In this position they patiently await to ambush prey.
Tips; Can be found in running tidal water in small cuts, rocky shallow areas during warm months. Can be taken on rod and reel and by gigging. Use shrimps, pogies, crab pieces as hook baits. Best months for gigging are October and November.
One of the most sought after eating fish in the Gulf.
Known for its tender white filets and mild flavor, this is definitly one of the favorites of most fishermen.
Record for this fish is up to 10lbs

RedFish-RedDrum
(Sciaenops ocellatus)Red Drum
size range: up to 60 lbs. 3 to 8 lbs. typical
But when on the spawning moove it's easy to get into large schools of 20 to 30 pounders.
A member of the croaker family the Red Drum have large reddish scales on their upper body and have a blunt snout. The tail is square with at least one round black spot (an eyespot) on top . Small red fish are called "rat reds", while large ones are called "bull reds." Fishing season is year round with fall being the best time to catch big reds in the surf. Younger redfish stay in bays year round, over oyster reefs and in grass flats. They like shallow water with quick access to deeper water. They are estuarine-dependent, found in brackish water and saltwater on bottoms of inlets, passes and bays. In shallow water reds are sighted with their tails slightly out of the water, a behavior called "tailing".
Tips; Cast with lures, flies, spoons, surface plugs, swimming plugs and jigs. Leadhead jig with soft trailers are effective. Use live bait such as crab, shrimp, cocahoe minnow.
Another favorite fish for locals, plus its a brute of a fighter. Loved by offshore anglers as well as those fishing from the beach's and banks.

SandTrout
The small cousin of the infamouse white/silver trout. Most people just group this one in there with the coolor of white trout and never know the difference.(white trout have the yellow inside the mouth-sand trout do not). Still a great eating fish and is an awesome way to get your youngsters caught on fishing.......Just put them in a pile of trout.THEIR HOOKED!!!!

WhiteTrout
One of the most frequently caught eadible local fish's. The white trout is known for its tender white filets and mild flavor. These fish can be caught in abundance from around March thru Sept. but are easily caught mostly year round. Great for getting the kids started fishing. From up-river, bays, to well offshore. This is a plentifull fish and lots of fun on light tackle. Espicially when you catch two at a time.

Speckled ( Speck) Trout
One highly sought after, specialzed trophy fish. These fish are know for their awesome tast and even more important "the awesome fight they put up". Speck's are the fish to hunt after, and its not always easy......known for only taking live bait at times like shrimp, bull minnows, or small crabs; there are times when you can catch them on any type of jig or spoon, bottom or topwater, and often in schools so large their all you can catch. GREAT EATING TOO!!
Tips;Specs feed on live shrimp, and small fish but can be taken on a variety of lures including spoons, touts, jigs, crank baits, soft plastics. Use cracked crab, cut mullet over oyster beds.
